The best labelers for takeout, grocery and delivery

The public health emergency caused by the spread of Covid-19 has had enormous repercussions on restaurant operations, which are among the hardest hit by the restrictive measures aimed at containing infection.

More generally, the contingencies related to the pandemic have altered consumption dynamics, forcing many establishments to change their product management and sales strategies to adopt new solutions that can actively respond to new customer enjoyment needs.

The industries most affected by the new consumer trends were food trade and catering; in particular, many of these businesses faced increasing demand for specific services such astake-out and delivery.

The characteristic trends of 2020

The first findings pertaining to the “Covid effect” on the food sector were collected and published by theFIPE (Italian Federation of Public Establishments)Study Office in April 2020. As stated in the press note, “only 5.4 percent were already in a position, at the time of the decree’s enactment, to provide a food delivery service,” while 10.4 percent have subsequently taken steps to provide this type of service.

In contrast, the remaining 85 percent preferred not to make such a move due to lack of means (35.5 percent) or unaffordability of costs (64.5 percent).

In spite of these figures, which take a snapshot of the ‘initial’ situation of the industry at the dawn of the pandemic, according to the findings of theSIGEP Observatory, food delivery will be one of the growing trends that will characterize 2021. In particular, the service will be more the preserve of small businesses-locally active bars and restaurants-at the expense of large platforms.

More generally, according to the findings of theNetcomm – Politecnico di Milano B2c eCommerce Observatory in December 2020, food delivery is a fast-growing segment within the online food sales sector (+56 percent compared to 2018). In addition, the percentage of Italian cities with more than 50 thousand inhabitants covered by home food delivery services has grown (+19%) since 2017.

Maintaining competitiveness through good labeling

In a market scenario in which online sales and delivery are set to grow, industry businesses have one unavoidable goal: to maintain their competitiveness. It can be pursued by means of a number of different strategies that share the same goal: to improve the management of resources and orders to be filled, trying to make it as efficient as possible.

Each processing step, therefore, must be organized and implemented in a way that optimizes both time and cost. Such an approach is essential, not only to keep customers ‘stable’ (through a process of retention) but also to attract new ones, so as to increase the volume of one’s sales and related revenues.

In the overall economy of order and product management processes, labeling plays a major role. A simple and effective marking system contributes significantly to making any management process more agile.

In addition, the latest labeling systems are ‘smart’ in such a way that they are also functional forrepricing strategies, that is,updating prices in relation to market developments. This is another factor that contributes to business competitiveness and, therefore, should be wisely exploited.

What are the best labeling solutions for your grocery store, Delivery and Takeaway?

From a practical point of view, there are many solutions for labeling. In general, it is good to rely on quality devices that can guarantee high performance, such as Brothers QL800 label printers.

Of course, the choice of device for label printing must take into account the specific needs of your business. Brother PT-CUBE (PT-P300BT) printers, for example, are compact, have Bluetooth connectivity and Smartphone compatibility, and are ideal for making small (up to 12 mm) and durable labels.
